Place Coffeen Lake
Mike Evanoff and Anthony Evanoff
USA Bassin held their second tournament of their Fall/Winter circuit
this past Saturday. It was a beautiful day with a take off temp around
50 degrees. The sun came over the tree line with a perfect blue bird
sky for most of the day. With saying that, you know how the fishing
was! It was tough. There were 19 boats that took the Coffeen
challenge. Those 19 boats brought to the scales a total of 22 fish.
There was only one five fish limit weighed in. Coffeen is known to be
tough in the months of October and November. With the cooler temps on
the way the lake will definitely produce a stronger bite with the
colder temps. Tournament director Dan Blanton kicked the boats off in
a timely manner at 7am sharp. The weigh-in went smoothly and the fish
were returned to the water in a timely manner. On with the stats!
First place went to the team of Marty Derganc of Benld, IL and Ken
Wise of Mt. Olive, IL. This was the only team to weigh-in a five fish
limit. Ken and Marty were also the big bass winners. Their five fish
weighed in at ll.42 pounds and big bass of 2.53 lbs. They reported
heading towards the hot arm and keying in on the clay banks to boat
their fish. They were fishing in 7-10 foot of water dragging Carolina
rigs with a green pumpkin brush hog. Ken is sponsored by Dupo Marine.
Second place went to the team of
Mike Evanoff and Tony Evanoff both of Granite City, IL. We brought 4
fish to the scales weighing in at 7.75 pounds. The key to our fish was
the Coffeen weed beds. We were throwing ½ oz black with a gold blade
buzz baits made by E-Factor Lures. The key with the weeds was to
thoroughly cover every patch with several casts. Our fish were caught
within the first several hours of the tournament. Mike is sponsored by
7/24 Outdoors and E-Factor Lures.
Third place went to the team of Eldon
Best and Doc Moortland both of Taylorville, IL. They brought three
fish to the scales weighing in at 5.23 pounds. They reported fishing
8-10 feet of water with Carolina rigs. They were bumping the small
weed patches and woods. Eldon is sponsored by EB Baits.
First out of the money prize went to the team of Paul Desherlia of
Belleville, IL and Dave Mueller of Shiloh, IL. They received a $40
pack of lures donated by E-Factor Lures.
